Just like I talked about in Part One, finding your boudoir styles is a lot like a choose your own adventure. The more twists and turns the better! Are you ready for the second question?
2nd Question: What Are Your Editing Preferences?
When I say editing preferences I am talking about the "look" of the final product. Having a clear idea on the "look" you want out of your images helps point you in the right direction for outfit choices as well. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of clothing choices that can go either way, but knowing the esthetic you are looking for, plus your answers from What to Wear: Part One, will help you pick the perfect outfits for you.
I prefer Soft & Airy Images
Soft & Airy pairs great with Soft, Feminine & Coy as well as Sporty and flirty looks. So if you are looking for softer more feminine images, you want to choose outfits from both of those categories. Such as soft lace, chiffon pieces, button up shirts, oversized sweaters. Pieces that are sheer, or see through also work great with the soft and airy look. I guess a great way to put it, is that you want your outfit to look light and airy, as if it was just draped over you, rather than something with hard lines. For soft and airy I would avoid pieces like fishnet stockings and leather.
I prefer Black & White Images
Let's face it, who doesn't love a beautiful image in black and white? Black and white images are timeless, and fit every style. You can hit every persona with a black and white image, and because of this I often include a mix of black and white images in every clients gallery. And because of this the perfect outfits are endless. But black always looks stunning with black and white photography. The only colors I would avoid for black and white photography are colors of outfits that are too close to your own skin tone. It can look beautiful for an image or two, but an entire shoot like that, would be underwhelming. Just look at some of these examples below. The first one has a soft feeling, the second is definitely more sporty and flirty, and that last image is bold and powerful!
I prefer Warm Toned Images
Warm tones tend to give an image a more intimate feeling. For lack of a better way to explain it, the images just feel warm. Think dark orange tones and more on the trendy side. For these images the best clothing choices are usually more on the bolder side of things. Think black lace and deep colors. You can get a warm look with pastels but they loose some of their softness, so just keep that in mind.
I prefer Natural Images
Natural images are pure, with little color change from the original form. The images but be bumped up a little, or warmed up slighting, but nearly as much as warmer images. For natural images you can really go with any color and any style outfit. I know, not what you want to hear, but it's true. This is where you wear what feels most comfortable for you! These style images are also perfect for more of the more modern glamour shots. So you can wear a lot, or use your hands or props to hid the bits and pieces, and it will all look amazing!
Just like before, there are no wrong answers here. You can have a mix of these editing styles. It just just important to know what you like and what you don't like. Knowing that will help you decide what to wear and what not to wear for your boudoir experience.
