When people hear me say one of my favorite places to take pictures is on the side of the road I bet one of their first thoughts is most likely, "what the hell".
That or maybe they think how on earth could the side of the road make a good backdrop, why wouldn't you go to a park, or field, the beach...the list could probably go on and on. But just because it is the side of the road doesn't mean you can't find the amazing. And to be completely honest I didn't know how amazing the side of the road was until I started letting the Universe Decide.
Which if you're new here, when I say Universe Decide, I'm talking about my Universe Decides cards that were made by a fellow photographer Teri Hofford, where the cards I pull before the session decide things like location, direction, how long to travel, wardrobe, lighting, and mood. I don't always let the universe make all the decisions, but I do love seeing what I can create as a photographer with majority of the cards!
Pulling cards with direction and travel time has taken me to some really incredible locations, most right on the side of the road. Here are some of my absolute favorite side of the road locations thus far!
Directly behind me on this shoot was a row of houses, which I'm guessing if anyone was home and saw us, they probably thought what the hell are those two doing on the side of the road.
Directly behind me was a massive distribution center, with train tracks leading towards the massive building. When we started driving we ended up on this curve on the road where there was this beautiful overgrown wild flowers. It was perfect, the universe knew exactly what we needed!
You know what was behind me here, and kind of all around us? A neighborhood that was under construction.
Directly behind me on this shoot, a back road, that lead to a small airport.
Behind me on this shoot was just a road in the middle of who knows where. When we ended up at our time limit of how far to travel we found ourselves in the middle of nowhere with nothing around for miles. It was kinda perfect.
For this shoot we ended up on an old dirt road in the middle of a pecan field in Georgia, in the rain, it was perfect!
This list could go on and on but I'm going to stop with this one. Directly behind me for this image was the on ramp for the interstate.
There are literally amazing locations all around us. We don't always have to scout out the perfect place. Sometimes we just have to let the universe decide for us!
*Disclaimer: Majority of these images were captured while I was still living and working in Georgia, I plan on doing a Part 2 with Florida locations eventually!
